2019MMM Round 2 Results and Sweet 16 Preview

Things start getting kinda crazy tonight in the 2019 March Mammal Madness tournament as we kickoff of the Sweet 16.

But before then, we’ve got the results of Round 2 for the Cat-e-Gory and the Tag Team contestants, and these were they divisions I seemed to pick well in the first round of the tournament.

For the Cat-e-Gory matches we see the #1 seeded Sea Lion crushes the #8 Small Spotted Cat Shark, the #4 Fisher Cat suffering grievous talon wounds as he loses to the #5 Tiger Owl, the #3 Bearcat chases away the #6 Lion-Tailed Macaque, and the vicious #2 Nimvarid somehow finds a way to LOSE to the #7 Tiger Quoll by fighting another Namvarid instead of his real competition. All as expected except for the ancient Namvarid which is extinct after all.

In the Tag Team Division the #1 Zebra & Oxpecker continue their torrid advance as they take down the #8 Aardvark & his Cucumber. The #5 Crab & Sea Turtle march forward as they use beak and claw to take down the #4 Wrasse & Moray Eel. In the #3 v #6 battle there was actually an interloper who attacked the lower ranked Diana Monkey & Red Colobus. This gave the Banded Mongoose & Warthog all they needed to push themselves into the Sweet 16. Finally, my favorite, the #2 Coyote & Badger create a killing zone that the Capybara couldn’t escape. With the beloved rodent down, the Wattled Jacana flew off to watch the rest of the tournament.

And finally, before the start of tonight’s Sweet 16 matchups, here are my picks for the victors…

Zebra & Oxpecker, Coyote & Badger in the Tag Team Division.

Tiger Owl and Nimravid in the Cat-e-Gory Division which just means I only can advance the Tiger Owl as the Nimravid lost to the Tiger Quoll – I guess Tigers are doing real well here.

Moose and Tapir from the Waterfalls Division.

Tiger and Markhor (who lost out way back in round 1)…it’ll be a close matchup between the Dolphin and the Armadillo with the victor mostly determined by the environment of the battle I’m sure.

In any case, it looks like Tigers are gonna be the big winners whether they are Quolls or Owls or of the Bengal sort.
