If this what the Game is about I Might Pass
First Look Review of Anthem #1
A New Verse, Part 1 of 3 by Mac Walters, Alexander Freed, and Eduardo Francisco. Published by Dark Horse Comics, 2019.
I’m not really sure what to think about this comic. It’s based on a video game that just came out and I think it’s supposed to provide some background story for the universe that the game takes place in. The problem I have is I didn’t see much in the way of story in this issue.
There’s some narration about the armor the game is gonna focus on and a few battle scenes but the most part of the story seemed to revolve around the relationship between 2 adopted siblings. And I just didn’t get into it.
The panels depicting Fort Tarsis were probably my favorite and the art was pretty good.
I just didn’t really understand what the plot of the story was or where things were going after this first issue. It just seemed like things were meandering to the end.
I didn’t really care for this comic and rate it a C- and if this is what I can expect form the game I think I might just skip it as well.
This comic can be found on Comixology or at your local comic book shop.

I wonder if it is clearly aimed at the already playing crowd. Yarrow is a retired Freelancer and frequently visited NPC in the game, so nice to see him in action in the comic. (That kind of thing).
And oh, Tarsis is even more beautiful in game! =)
I suppose I’ll have to give the game a shot or at least find out more about it…but even so, I’m not really sure I’ll be reading any more of the comic.
It sounds like you’ve played the game already, is it worth the time and effort?
