First Look Review Of X-Men: Red #2

In the last issue of X-Men: Red we saw that Jean Grey was back and she was trying to convince the members of the UN that mutants were peaceful and need to be treated as a nation in the world body. That was before the British Ambassador’s head blew up in her face – people were a bit skeptical of her words after that.

The Hate Machine, Part 2: Trinary by Tom Taylor, Muhmud Asrar, and Ive Svorcina. Published by Marvel Comics, 2018.

In this issue we’re introduced to Trinary, a technopath, who looks like she might be a formidable addition to the team, but before she can join, they’ve gotta go rescue her. Jean and the crew have retired to Wakanda where Black Panther has provided protection from mutant hating mobs that have sprung up all over the world and the governments who want Jean to pay for the death of the British Ambassador. Somehow though, they’ve gotta get to India to save Trinary.

Jean, Wolverine (Laura Kinney), Honeybadger, and Nightcrawler head there and break into the compound where Trinary is being kept but soon an angry mob is attacking. Jean puts most to sleep with a suggestion but a few keep coming. It turns out they’re being controlled by someone else. As Jean has to focus on these new threats, someone sends out an alert – Code Sentinel and things start to get real interesting.
One of the huge mutant killing sentinels from busts outta the ground and all hell breaks loose. We’ll see how they get outta this predicament in the next issue but as the issue closes out there’s actually a post ‘to be continued…’ page that foreshadows some interesting things.

I give this issue a First Look Rating of a B+.
