Champs, Assassins, and Sabrina

Daily Ramble 2 of 2019:

The first day back at work after the holidays was, as usual, not the most exciting. Sure, I got back into the office and got a bunch done to kick off the year in grand fashion but I really could have done with an extra day or 3 of vacation. Oh well, I decided to save up that time for later in the year when I head to Comic-Con. So instead of having the day to myself, doing what I wanted, I spent most of the day getting the year moving at work. I did get a bit of time here and there, before work and during breaks to do a few things worth rambling about…

Where are my Champs?

After finally downloading and installing The Elder Scrolls on Wednesday I wasn’t quite ready to jump in.  I actually had to repurchase the game since I did not want to wait for Bethesda to get back to me with my account information.  It was less than $10 on Steam so I figured I could afford to buy the game a second time.  Now I just need to get my account info if I want to check out the characters I used to play – which isn’t that big of a deal either since I’m pretty sure I was still pretty low level.

Anyway, as I was downloading and installing, I jumped into League of Legends. This time though, I decided I would see how things would work out if I played with a ‘pre-ranked’ character. Basically, a while back I had set up a new account when I was trying out mid-lane for the first time. I didn’t want my crummy play to impact my support ranking at the time. I only got that account to level 19 so I’m still 11 levels below the point where I could play ranked games anyway. Instead I gave ARAM a try.

The game is the same asit’s always been…run down a long single lane, knocking off a couple of towers and then an inhibitor before taking down the base. It’s a straightforward and fairly enjoyable way to learn new champions and regain the feel of the game mechanics. But for some reason Riot would not give me a champ I had in my roster. I know they have something like 10 champs on rotation but I figured since I own 15 I should have at least got to play someone I know even vaguely in one of the 4 games I played. Nope.

I got to play Vayne, Twitch, Ziggs, and Cho’Gath none of which I own on the account and other than Ziggs and Cho, I have maybe played them a handful of times over the years. Strange that I got randomized into champs I never play but that just makes the fact that I went 1–3 understandable.

It’s not that I played poorly on these guys, I just didn’t know these champs well enough to integrate into a team and in ARAM, team is what the game is all about. I did win the match I played as Cho’Gath mostly because I just went tank and let the opposing team beat on me as the rest of my team took them down.

In any case, I got some enjoyment out of the games as ESO was installing and I might see where this account goes as time goes on.

Sabrina

As I mentioned yesterday, I started reading Sabrina for my Comic Book Reading Group.  It’s actually not an assigned reading but for the month we’re supposed to read a book for recommending to the group to read in the future.  I think I picked pretty good since so far this is a pretty well written book.  The art is kinda basic as I mentioned but things really intensified as I kept reading.  I’m about halfway through and the main event has occurred.  Sabrina has been abducted and her family and boyfriend are dealing with the aftermath.  The boyfriend even moved off to Colorado – they all started in Chicago – to bunk with an old friend who’s now in the Air Force.  This proves interesting since a lot of what we learn about the boyfriend and the family comes from this Air Force buddy.

I’m not really sure where this is going but it sure is riveting. I was up reading ‪until Midnight‬ when I realized I shouldn’t be reading something about kidnapping and assault right before I fell asleep. Tonight I’ll try to get an earlier start so I can get more into the story.

Deadpool: Assassin #1

By Cullen Bunn and Mark Bagley and published by Marvel Comics in 2018. I figured I’d give this a shot since it’s a new run on a character I like in the movies. I haven’t read much Deadpool in the past but what I’ve seen has been pretty fun. This issue holds up to that expectation and I’m looking forward to seeing where things are headed. From the way things are laid out it looks like Wade is looking to retire from the mercenary business and he’s only got a few more missions to take on. Personally, I highly doubt he’ll be able to just leave but I think it’ll be fun seeing him try to quit the business. Beware though, this comic is not for the faint of heart since there’s quite a bit of blood and flying body parts as Deadpool puts his swords to good use.
