First Look at Batman: The Long Halloween – Part 4

Daily Ramble 45

Time really slipped away from me today and I was only able to find time to compile my first thoughts on the 4th issue of The Long Halloween. This title has been really good but I sure wish DC Universe kept it around longer. At this point I’m starting to consider DC’s subscription service – DC Limited – as opposed to Marvel’s Unlimited.

Part 4 (of 13) of the graphic novel takes place on New Year’s Eve and the Joker is still galavanting around town looking for trouble (and Holiday) since he’s declared that Gotham “isn’t big enough for two homicidal maniacs”. But not only is Joker burning the midnight oil, Harvey Dent and his assistant Vernon are at work late when they discover a connection between Falcone and Bruce Wayne.

Could Wayne be Holiday?

Nah – we know he’s not but Dent doesn’t know Bruce too well. In any case, as the Joker tries to crop dust the town with Joker Gas, Batman jumps onto the plane to stop him and a pretty cool fight scene takes place. It lasts the whole issue interspersed throughout all the other goings on and it’s a nice artistic touch that keeps the pace of things brisk. Meanwhile, The Roman and his family are celebrating the New Year on their yacht when Alberto gets shot by the Holiday Killer and falls overboard. This time he leaves the standard gun and nipple but he also leaves a glass of champaign and party favors.

4 months, 4 murders, and no one seems to be close to figuring out who Holiday is.

I’ll give this issue a First Look Rating of A-.
