Beltre smacks Number 475
Oakland dominated the Angels 10–0 in Anaheim on Wednesday in an effort to hold onto their playoff plans. They’re still sitting in the 2nd wild card spot but they’ve got much better chances of making the postseason than Seattle. The Mariners crushed Houston 9–0 to keep their slim chances alive. They’re 7 games behind Oakland for the final playoff spot in the AL but at least they’ve still got a chance. Other than the Angels who were destroyed by Oakland, Texas is the other LA West team without hope. They lost to Tampa Bay 9–3 but on the upside, Adrian Beltre smacked his 475th career home run to tie Stan Musial and Willie Stargell on the all-time list.
AL West Standings:
Houston 95–57
Oakland 91–61, 4 games back, 2.5 back of New York for the top wild card spot
Seattle 84–68, 7 games behind Oakland for the 2nd wild card spot
Dodgers Sweep the Rockies
In the National League, the Dodgers kept on a roll as they beat their division rivals, the Rockies 5–2 in LA. Puig was the star again as he came off the bench and smacked a pinch-hit home run that drove in 3. His blast secured the win as Walker Buehler shut down Colorado allowing 2 runs with none of them earned and striking out 12 in 6 innings of work. Arizona finally got back in the win column on Wednesday as they shut out the Cubs 9–0. Robbie Ray threw 6 innings of shutout ball and struck out 8 in the win. With that, the D-Backs remain 6 games behind the Dodgers in the NL West. Finally, the Padres picked up their 61st win of the season as they took down the Giants 8–4.
