Endings, New Modes, and Fun Comics
Daily Ramble 30: Endings, New Modes, and Fun Comics
Today I tried to catch up on some of the blog posts I’ve been missing from my #Blaugust pals. Many of them have kept going after August ended and I’m still working to read everything they put out in my RSS reader. One of these days I’ll update my blogroll too but for now…
As I’m going through things not only do I see that Everquest might be coming to the mobile platform but also that the end of Wildstar is close at hand. I suppose the EQ thing is more surprising since Wildstar has kinda been on a downward spiral for a while now.
Finally, I ramble on a bit about a couple of comics I was able to read today…
The End of Wildstar
I can’t say it is a surprise but it still saddens me to hear that Wildstar will be shutting down soon. Apparently Kotaku reported that the studio that developed the game is also closing it’s doors and a bunch of good people will be losing their jobs. Hopefully they’ll be able to find a nice place to land but I definitely want to express my appreciation for everything they did in that game.
While I played Wildstar off and on during it’s lifetime it never really clicked with me, not even in my most recent foray during the MMO Book Club visit. I’m not really sure what it was but I think part of what turned me off was the ‘over-the-top’ nature of ingame events (Whenever you leveled up it was a huge extravagant production announcing the fact and it was kinda annoying) and the sometimes confusing action signals. Regardless, I did keep coming back.
Oh well, I’ll see if I can take a trip back to the world this weekend so I can take a few screenshots. That’s more than I was able to do when NCSoft shut down City of Heroes…I still don’t forgive them for that.
Everquest on Mobile?
As I’m just getting my feet wet in Everquest 2, I see a post over at The Ancient Gaming Noob by Wilhelm Arcturus (in my #Blaugust feed) that seems to indicate that Everquest will be heading to mobile platforms. Apparently Daybreak Games is joining with NantWorks to create NantG Mobile which will be bringing some of Daybreak’s properties to mobile platforms. I could see this working to some degree though there’d have to be a lot of UI updates thrown at EQ. But the world of Norrath is well developed and has a ton of history that could easily fill out a mobile game. I’m interested to see where this leads.
Y the Last Man and the ‘Other’ Hawkeye
Last time in Y The Last Man, we got to meet Yorick’s mother, the new President and Agent 355 and now Yorick and 355 are headed out in search of a doctor who specializes in cloning. They were headed to Boston but didn’t get very far as the last man alive decided to get into a fight with a bunch of women. The women who call themselves the Amazons now know that he’s alive and are determined to destroy him and all that he represents. This is definitely not a good thing when it appears his sister is one of the Amazons sent to hunt him down.
Way back in April, I read Hawkeye #2 and it was a blast – I’m just sorry it’s taken me so long to get back to that title. The third installment is just as fun as the I remember and I can see why this title was nominated for an Eisner award. In this issue, Kate has to escape a crazy mind controlled mob and infiltrate a party to try to find the girl she was hired to protect. She’s pretty resourceful and now she’s even getting a bit of a Scooby Gang to help her out.
