Rambling Again on #Blaugust Day 17
Daily Ramble 16: Finally Some Time
The past few days have been crazy busy. I’ve been able to post my game logs from the Angels but that’s been all the time I’ve had. Today, I’ve finally got some time to put a regular ramble together and maybe this weekend I’ll have some time to actually play some games.
First Fight
After a bunch of set up, cut scenes, and a tutorial, I finally got into my first fight with Geralt and it didn’t turn out well. I suppose that since I’m just learning the game and I’m trying to play at the Death March difficulty, I’m kinda resigned that I’m gonna die a few times…and this first fight gave me a sample of what to expect.
One thing I learned is that it’s important to save the game before and after any fight.
Unfortunately, the save before this fight ended up being a few long cutscenes away so each time I died, and it was more than a few, I had to wade through about 10 minutes of video before I could get back into the fight.
It became so frustrating, I decided to start back at the beginning of the game to redo the tutorial in hopes that by learning to fight better, I’d be able to take on the ghouls successfully next time. And it seemed to work.
Although it took a few extra tries I managed to kill the 6 or so ghouls that attacked Vesimir and Geralt. This initial fight is pretty difficult with multiple simultaneously attacking enemies but I expect that this’ll be the way things go throughout the game. I’m gonna need to figure out if it pays to focus on a single enemy until he’s dead or if I should swap between the baddies and whittle them down all together. For now, I tried to focus on a single enemy while dodging the attacks of the others. It seemed I was taking a bunch of damage from flanking attacks though so I’m not sure this is the way to go.
I better learn fast though or this game will take a really long time.
Everyone Loves Pets
Along with the opportunity to play a bit of The Witcher, I had the chance to read a few comics and one commonality I found with the 2 issues I read was that pets played a role in each.
The first comic was Y The Last Man, issue 1 by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra. Unmanned, Chapter One introduces us to Yorick and his buddy Ampersand, a male Capuchin monkey. We also met a bunch of men who mysteriously seem to die at the end of the issue. It’s kinda like the Walking Dead or The Leftovers where the men are affected and die while the women are left to fend for themselves. Somehow though it seems Yorick and Ampersand are the only surviving males.
The second comic I read was the first issue of the new Fantastic Four by Dan Slott and Sara Pichelli. It’s so cool that Marvel is bringing back the family that I bought the issue on ComiXology instead of waiting for it on Marvel Unlimited. The Thing and Human Torch have been hangning out around the Marvel Universe, showing up in Spider-Man comics and such, but Reed, Sue and the kids have been missing for quite a while. Getting the family back together is definitely exciting and I’m looking forward to seeing where they’ve been and what kind of adventures they’re gonna have now that they’re coming back.
Six Degrees of Stardew Valley Over at Princess in a Castle
Stardew Valley has always been a game I’ve been interested in trying out but it lacked that one last bit of incentive for me to jump onboard…multiplayer. Reading Endalia’s post over at [Princess in a Castle](http://princessinacastle.com) gave me hope that this last barrier has been lifted. In her [Stardew Valley Multiplayer](http://www.princessinacastle.com/general/stardew-valley-multiplayer/) post, she talks about playing with her husband and sharing a farm that they run cooperatively. That sounds totally cool so I sought out further information. Unfortunately, the multiplayer is only functional on the PC at this time and it looks like it may not be coming to console at all. With that being the case, I hope the developers bring the game and multiplayer to iOS so Mrs. Redshirt and I can jump on board and give this game a spin. In the meantime, we’ll keep playing Minecraft on our iPads.
