Calhoun Smacks Two
On Thursday it was Albert Pujols who knocked 2 home runs but in that game he did so in a winning effort as the rest of the offense backed him up and produced further scoring. On Friday the hitter was Kole Calhoun and while he too hit 2 home runs, that was all the scoring the team got.
2 Not Enough
You’d think 2 runs could be enough on quite a few nights particularly when Cam Bedrosian was pitching and he hadn’t given up an earned run since June 12th. Too bad he chose this game to end that streak by giving up 2 runs.
Again though, the main issue the Angels are facing is the fact that they have no starters. Felix Pena can pitch as a starter but he’s only thrown 5 games in that capacity and he’s never lasted more than 5 1/3 innings. He’s really just a spot starter thrown into the rotation because everyone is injured. Nevertheless, he held the Dodgers to 1 run over 4 innings on Friday and left with the Angels leading 2–1. And it stayed that way till the 7th when Bedrosian came in as mentioned.
With the 2 home runs Calhoun is my Player of the game and it’s good to see him turning things around. I would like to see him continue his improvement since it’d be great if he could get above the Mendoza Line before the end of the season.
Today, Andrew Heaney (5–6 3.84 ERA) faced off against Alex Wood (5–5 3.88 ERA) in the second game of the Freeway series.
