Losing Streak Broken

It didn’t take long but Mike Trout got the team on the road to breaking the 6 game losing streak the Angels have been suffering. With a home run in the first, his 24th of the season, Trout got the Angels on the board and on the way to a victory against the Baltimore Orioles.

Trout was Tired of Losing

Facing a string of rookie pitchers (it almost seemed like the Angels were playing themselves), the Angels were finally able to get their offense producing. Trout hit a home run and scored twice, Simmons had 4 hits, Maldonado smacked a home run, and Upton picked up 3 his as well. All lead to a 13 hit night that saw the Angels broke their 6 game losing streak.

Felix Peña was the beneficiary of the offensive breakout but he pitched pretty well too. He threw 5 1/3 innings of shut out ball, giving up 5 hits and striking out 5. And the bullpen held things in control for the rest although they did give up 1 run.

Regardless, this game saw pitching, offense, and defense (3 double plays) all contributing for the Angels and it was really nice to see.

With all the contributors it’s hard to pick one for my Player of the Game but picking up 4 hits is a great achievement (this is the 2nd time he’s done it thisso I award it to Simmons.

In other good news, Garrett Richards threw in a minor league game and may be coming back from the DL soon. But not today…

Today, Tyler Skaggs (6–5, 2.69 ERA) pitches for the Angels against Andrew Cashner (2–8, 4.70 ERA) and he hopes of keep his great June going…3–1, 0.67 ERA. I certainly hope he finishes June strong.
