It Wasn’t The Bullpen This Time
Even back-to-back home runs by Upton and Pujols weren’t enough to catch up to the Diamondbacks on Monday. It wasn’t the bullpen this time but the pitching wasn’t up to snuff again.
Finding ways To Lose
One day its the bullpen, the next it’s the starters, tomorrow it’ll be the offense. The Angels keep finding ways to lose while the teams above them in the standings keep winning. Houston has somehow won 12 in a row…wow!
Jaime Barria had a rough outing, lasting only 4 innings and giving up 6 runs. Giving up home runs to Paul Goldschmidt and Ketel Marte but the offense still only scored 4 runs. The good news is that Kole Calhoun came off the DL and went 2 for 3. That’s better than he did for a while before he went on the DL…perhaps he’s overcome whatever was causing his .150 batting average.
Ian Kinsler also picked up a couple hits to keep hot, and Trout did his usual 2 for 3 night but none of it was enough.
I think I’ll give my Player of the Game to Calhoun since he just came back and a least for tonight’s game it seems he’s turning a corner. Let’s hope his offense continues to improve.
Today, the series against Arizona continues featuring Felix Pena (0–0 10.13 ERA) making his first start for the Angels against Matt Koch (5–3, 4.09 ERA).
