Another Close One
The Angels found themselves in another close one with the Twins on Saturday after waiting over 4 hours for rain to stop. Tyler Skaggs (4–4 3.27 ERA) faced off against Kyle Gibson (1–3 3.54 ERA) in what turned out to be a rain delayed pitching duel. Fortunately, the Angels’ current hot hitter was able to provide some much needed offense to push the outcome towards the Angel’s direction. He wasn’t the only contributor though.
Kinsler and Pujols Power the Offense
Skaggs waited through the rain, which I thought Minnesota had solved with the Metrodome decades ago…what’s up with that? In any case, Target Field doesn’t seem to have a roof so rain actually interferes and delays games now. So after waiting what seemed like forever for someone sick and trying to watch the game, the Angels were finally able to take the field. And Skaggs did so with authority. He threw strong for 7 innings and only allowed a single run on some nice base running by Robbie Grossman of Minnesota. Skaggs picked up 8 strike outs and only allowed 1 walk and 5 hits and felt pretty good about the game afterwards.
On the Offensive side, the current hot hitter, Kinsler contributed again by smacking a home run to get the scoring started in the 3rd. Albert Pujols added a run with the 623rd home run of his career. The blast moved him into a the with Stan Musial on the all time list for RBIs at 1951. It turned out to be the winning run since the Twins scored their only run in the 6th right after Albert’s HR.
With Skaggs and the bullpen pitching well, 2 runs were all that were needed as the Angels went on to victory for the 6th time in a row.
Pujols gets my Player of the Game for his 2 for 4 showing and his game winning home run.
Today, Nick Tropeano (3–3 4.35 ERA) goes up against rookie Fernando Romero (2–2 3.96 ERA) and hopefully the rain clouds will stay away.
