Skaggs wins the Series
The game yesterday had some different heroes with the primary being the starting pitcher as Tyler Skaggs wins the series against Texas. Entering the game with Doug Fister (1–5, 4.09 ERA) going for the Rangers and Tyler Skaggs (3–4 3.60 ERA) pitching for my Angels it didn’t seem like it would be a low scoring game but Skaggs held the Rangers scoreless over 6 innings.
Little Offense on Either Side
Actually, Fister pitched fairly decently as well only allowing 4 Angel hits but that was all the team needed to score 3 runs. Actually, there was very little offense on either side as there were only 9 hits total in the game. But then only 2 hits mattered for my team…
Justin Upton hit a home run in the 6th as the biggest hit the Angels got but Luis Valbuena’s double in the 2nd was the critical one. That drove in Ohtani and Zack Cozart which were the only 2 runs needed to win the game.
My Player of the Game goes to Tyler Skaggs who continued the good pitching of the Angel starters who didn’t allow an earned run during the 3 game series. Apparently on reading the game summary, the Angels starters have pitched to a 2.56 ERA since May 1st which places them as the top starters in the American League in that time. I just wonder where the team would be if the bullpen pitched even remotely well during that time.
The other big news in the AL West yesterday is that Seattle took over 1st place. They’ve won 4 in a row and are 8-2 in their last 10 while the Angels and Astros are both 4-6. Congrats to them but now we’re gunning for you.
The Angel home stand continues today with Nick Tropeano (3–3 3.80 ERA) pitching against Kansas City’s Danny Duffy (2–6 5.71 ERA). Hopefully the goôd starting pitching will continue for my team.
