Continuing Bullpen Problems

The Angels were cruising along behind a strong outting by Garrett Richards until the continuing bullpen problems reasserted themselves and turned victory into defeat. It wa truly a sad ending that almost didn’t happen if the challenge in the 9th went as it should have. Basically with one out Adrian Beltre hit a sacrifice fly to left where Upton caught and threw to 2nd in time to get Carlos Tocci. The question was, did Profar score from 3rd before Tocci was out at 2nd. It looked pretty clear to me that he was out first but the Umps ruled that Profar scored and the game was tied.

Snatching Defeat from the Jaws of Victory

With the game tied, Texas went on to dominate the Angel bullpen further by scoring the winnng run in the 10th.

The offense for the Angels was pretty only Kinsler and Trout for the first 8 innings. Kinsler went 2 for 5 while Trout went 3 for 5 and was a double away from the cycle. The rest of the offense sat on their bats all game.

It took until the 9th inning, after the game should have been over, but someone other than Trout and Kinsler picked up a hit. Andrelton Simmons kept his hitting streak alive with a single but he was stranded on base.

While the first 8 innings were a nice pitching duel the last 2 were pretty sad for the Angels. They really gave that game away.

Trout is my Player of the Game, but even with his 3 hits he couldn’t carry an offense that didn’t want to provide an assist. And sadly, Richards didn’t get the win, which he deserved.

Today the series with Texas concludes with Doug Fister (1–5, 4.09) going for the Rangers and Tyler Skaggs (3–4 3.60) pitching for my Angels.
