First Look at One-Punch Man Volume 01 Punch 6
To get a feel of One-Punch Man Volume 01 Punch 6, I first had to reacquaint myself with what happened in Punch 5 because that’s where we first saw the Mosquito Queen. She showed up with a disaster level of DEMONIC and she only seems to get more powerful in this chapter. She fights and causes some significant damage to Genos, including tearing off one of his arms. But we learn that Saitama has a deep hatred of mosquitoes so the queen should be careful.

My Reading:
As I mentioned, this issue is a continuance of the fight Genos had with the Mosquito Queen. And it seems to be a pretty even battle. Genos has been using his incineration cannons to destroy the mosquito minions and as the queen swoops in for a deadly attack, he pulls off her legs. Too bad she also ripped off his arm but that’s the price you pay when dealing with a DEMONIC level threat.
As the queen backs off to recharge, that’s when we see our namesake hero. He’s been chasing a mosquito that bit him in the last chapter and he’s not too pleased that he hasn’t been able to squash it so far. Little does Saitama know but the bug has been called to the queen to feed her and help her evolve. Yup, she draws on the blood from all the mosquitoes in the area and grows stronger. Even to the point that her legs grow back.
As the insects swarm, Genos detonates an incineration blast that destroys them all but he’s worried that Saitama was caught in the inferno. We know our champ though, and the fire did nothing more than burn off his clothes. But now, with all the blood from the mosquitoes, the queen has attained her final evolution and on her next flyby, she nearly cuts Genos in half. Severely damaged, Genos resigns himself to self destruct in hope that the explosion might stop the evil queen. But before he can enact such a desperate plan, Saitama puts the smackdown on the Mosquito Queen. A simple slap to her face and the fight is over.
With the battle won, Genos is crazed that not only did he basically lose the fight but that he almost killed himself in a last ditch effort to claim victory. Hoping to never let that happen again he begs Saitama to take him as a disciple. I look forward to seeing in the next chapter what becomes of this new partnership.
What did I learn:
- The Mosquito Queen can use the blood given her by her mosquito minions to regenerate limbs.
- The Mosquito Queen can evolve to a more powerful version of herself when given enough blood.
- Genos is some kind of robot or cyborg who has artificial limbs.
- Genos can survive even after losing an arm and being cut in half.
- Genos is willing to commit suicide when faced with defeat.
- Saitama can withstand point blank incineration blasts from Genos, only having his clothes burned off in the process
My Thoughts:
This was an exciting conclusion to the Mosquito Queen fight. I had no doubt that Saitama would be able to take her down but it was good to see what Genos could bring to the table. The fact that he’s a cyborg could help out greatly as Saitama takes him as a disciple but he’s gotta calm down about blowing himself up when he’s losing. Genos also mentioned something about a professor so I’m wondering how he fits into the picture. Is this the person who helped Genos become a cyborg? So many questions remain though now we do know that a DEMONIC level threat is pretty formidable.
