Breaking Outta a Slump
Well, that was interesting and confusing and once again, the Angels lost.
Starting with the positives, it looks like Mike Trout might be breaking outta his slump. He hit his 2nd home run in as many days, number 14, but it was not enough to overcome the grand slam by Daniel Robertson. Still, I give Trout my Player of the Game since he’s really the only Angel to do much.
As far as the rest…an error in the 2nd inning lead to all the runs the Rays needed. Jefry Marte made a throwing error and Heaney decided it was a good time to throw in a few walks before giving up the home run to Robertson. It just looked bad for my team. They need to have a team meeting or something to get things back on the right track.
For Tampa Bay, they threw a wrench into things as they started the game with a reliever. Sergio Romo, who’s never started a game in his career, got the start. He’s pitched in 588 games and always in relief…until today. He struck out the side in the first inning and then handed the ball over to Ryan Yarbrough. It was totally unconventional and it worked for the Rays. Maybe the Angels should try it since their relievers can’t seem to finish games well, maybe they can start them well.
