Watching Television the Second Week of May 2018
Favorites from the Week ending May 12th
- Westworld season 2 episode 3 – Virtu e Fortuna. We finally learn there are other parks in the Westworld complex. This time we see Colonial India with all the elephants and tigers you can imagine. We also get a pretty cool rendition of Seven Nation Army by White Stripes. In any case we’ve started to learn some of the “other” reasons for the park. We already knew there was an entertainment factor but now we see that the administrators were using the hosts to collect information about the guests – kinda like Facebook and Google had a baby and it was Westworld. This was another great episode!
- Killing Eve season 1 episode 5 – I Have A Thing About Bathrooms. We’ve learned the assassin is named Villanelle and she is pretty ruthless. For some reason though she seems to like Eve and even when presented with several easy opportunities to kill her, she lets her go, but not before we learn more about who’s running things on both sides of the knife.
- Lucifer season 3, episode 23 – Quintessential Deckerstar. Somehow I learned that this was going to be the last season of Lucifer and I really don’t understand why. There’s one more episode left but I thought the show has been pretty good over the past 3 seasons. Why would they cancel it before it reached the magical 100 episode mark for syndication? It’s a really dumb decision by Fox and it makes me feel like Fox is going back to their stupidity from the 90s and 00s when they cancelled so many shows before giving them a chance.
- The Terror season 1 episode 8 – Terror Camp Clear. Wow! This is definitely a thriller but it’s also got some good horror as well. I’m saddened that this show is almost over and I kinda know what the outcome is gonna be – as long as they follow history. I think this might be the show I was most surprised to get hooked on this spring and I’m glad I gave it a try. It’s definitely been worth my time.
- The Americans season 6 episode 7 – Harvest. Philip helps out on a mission for the first time this season but it still doesn’t work out too well and now Stan is seriously abusing his neighborly priveledge. At this point I could easily see the Philip and Elizabeth having to kill Stan because he threatens to expose them but I could also see Paige getting hurt. The show is really tense and I’m glad they’ve turned up things for this last season. I just hope the payoff is as good as the buildup.
Other Shows I Enjoyed This Week
- Elementary season 6, episode 2 – Once You’ve Ruled Out God.
- Forged in Fire: Knife or Death season 1 episode 4 – Super Smash Bros. I really enjoy this series as a spinoff of the Forged in Fire show – it’s fun to see the people actually use the knives they forged.
- The Flash season 4 episode 16 – Run, Iris, Run. The guy from Westworld was pretty cool to see and I liked the meta power introduced.
- iZombie season 4 episode 5 – Goon Struck. Liv took on the persona of a hockey goon and it was pretty fun to see.
- Ancient Aliens season 13 episode 3 – The Alien Protocols. The took a look at the plans in place for meeting alien life and it was interesting. This is always a show I enjoy putting on when I don’t want to focus to hard on anything.
- Archer season 9, episode 1 – Strange Pilot. This wasn’t their best opening of a season but I’m gonna keep up with the show because it’s been fun in the past.
Back on the Bubble
Trust – I gotta put this show back on the bubble since I am so tired of the foreign language. I get the idea of authenticity, but I doubt The Godfather would be so well regarded if it was 70% in Italian. This is American television not Italian and sorry if I’m being a rude American, but I prefer to watch television and relax, not have to read because they’re all speaking a foreign language. If I want to watch something where I have to read, I’d watch anime or something where I know there’s gonna be subtitles, not a show that never advertised itself as being subtitled and that is supposed to be in English.
