Mother’s Day Win
Daily Ramble 234: Mother’s Day Win
I’m really happy to be reporting that the Angels pulled off a win on Mother’s Day.
Ohtani was on the mound and he pitched brilliantly going 6 1/3 innings and striking out 11. I hope they extend him soon since the bullpen needs plenty of rest. He only thre 76 pitches and if he could get up to 100 he’d easily be able to throw a complete game. As it is, it certainly seems the Angel starters don’t get outta the 7th inning and quite often they don’t get outta the 6th. It’s already May and they should be going 100 pitches and able to get into the 8th and 9th innings.
The offense didn’t do much yesterday but they did enough. After leaving 16 men on base Saturday, they left another 10 yesterday but at least 2 of them scored. And one of those was the winning run in the 9th. Zack Cozart had the best offensive day going 3 for 5 in the eadoff spot and he knocked in the winning run with a walk-off single.
Normally I’d give him my Player of the Game but I’m gonna give that honor to Ohtani since he pitched so well.
The other big play that I highlighted in the image above was in the 9th and it goes to show how defense can spark offense. With Adrianza on first base, Grossman hit a long fly ball between right and center that bounced off the wall. Trout nabbed it on the round and threw a strike to Ian Kinsler who turned and threw a bullet to Maldonado to get Adianza at home plate. It was an incredible play and save the game for the team setting up the opportunity to win in the bottom of the 9th.
Tomorrow Houston comes into town and I certainly hope the Angels luck improves because they need to play extremely well to pick up some wins against them. Heaney faces off against McCullers Jr. in the first game and with Houston in first place by a game this’ll be a crucial series this early in the season.
