Weather Blocked the Spirits of Vengeance
Daily Ramble 206: Weather Blocked the Spirits of Vengeance
Today’s ramble is a bit strange since I feel like I spun my wheels a bit. In Neverwinter I got stuck looking for a questgiver that was not showing that he had anything for me to do. In baseball, I kept waiting to see if the Angels were gonna play but the game got postponed due to cold weather. And in Comics, I started a new title that was interesting but about characters I really don’t know much about…I am looking forward to learning about them though.
Stuck in Neverdeath
Somehow on my way to finish up the campaign in Neverdeath Graveyard, I lost the quest line. I was crusing along nicely…particularly since I’m level 63 and this is a 25–30 level zone…and I stopped getting quests.
Basically, the zone was working out in a straightforward manner with basic quest hubs. I talked to Doomguide Volahk, Doomguide Orran, Captain Zemmer, and Retrigal Bookbinder. All had quests for me and I moved from one to the other in a seemless journey though quests. Then I had no one to talk to.
I ran all over the place looking for my next little exclaimation mark and saw nothing. I even went back to the Protector’s Enclave for a bit but didn’t see anything that would lead me back into the graveyard.
So I headed online to check out the Wiki. I was supposed to get the Dragon Attack quest – one of the ones to complete the campaign and open up a full-featured account – from a guy named Tristopher Chettlebell. Huh? He was right there and had been there all along but never had any quests for me…now he does.
Finally, after looking for him for what seemed like forever, I can now move forward with my mission…only I ran outta time for today. Crap! Tomorrow, I’m gonna try to finish up the Neverdeath Graveyard quests and move on to Helm’s Hold and the last of the required campaigns.
Postponed
Well, someone finally found out how to cool the Angels off…snow on ’em and make it so cold they can’t play. I think the Royals have to be kinda pleased with the outcome of today since they didn’t have to play the hottest team in the league with their rookie superstar two-way player Shohei Ohtani on the mound. The game will be made up later in the year…perhaps June is late enough that there won’t be any snow in Missouri and Shohei will pitch on Tuesday. With tomorrow an off day for the Angels, they head home to await another hot team, the Boston Red Sox.
Boston is 13–2 on the year and it will be an intense game to see how they face up agaisnt such a hot Angel team. Ohtani gets the call to throw against David Price which actually works out well since he hasn’t been a batter much against lefties…might as well pitch against them.
At this early point of the season, these are the 2 best teams in the American League. The Angels sport a .291 team batting average to Boston’s .275. The Angels hold the edge in the long ball knocking out 26 to Boston’s 13, but the Sox have a very deadly lineup featuring J.D. Martinez, Mookie Betts, and Hanley Ramirez.
The series looks to be a good one and I’m looking forward to the battle.
First Look at Spirits of Vengeance #1
War at the Gates of Hell, Part 1 by Victor Gischler and David Baldeon. Published by Marvel Comics, 2017.
I have to admit that I’ve never read a comic featuring Ghost Rider, Santana, or Blade, and I’ve never even heard of Hellstrom, but this was an interesting introduction. Apparently Johnny Blaze is the alter ego of Ghost Rider and Daimon Hellstrom turns out to be the Son of Satan, but these are things that I enjoy finding out.
And I start figuring them out quickly as Johnny meets up with someone who’s been shot who then busts into flames. He was shot with some kind of silver bullet and that (and a couple of demonic police officers) seems to be the trigger to bring Blaze to Daimon. It turns out it’s “Getting to be THAT time again” and the supernatural folks in New York are all a bit nervous. In any case, Daimon and Johnny scout about the city trying to find out more about this silver bullet and talking to all kinds of interesting people. In the end they decide they need to enlist Blade into their group figuring he’d help them avoid Armageddon.
It’s a bit scattered for someone completely new to these characters but I found the issue interesting to the point that I want to read more. I certainly want to get to know these characters better and while the art is kinda cartoony. I think it fits well for the story – I mean I really don’t want photo-realistic images of demons and people burning.
On the whole, my first impression of this issue rates a B.
