#2018MMM Fleshing out the Sweet Sixteen
Daily Ramble 186: Fleshing out the Sweet Sixteen
Round Two of the Antecessors and the When the Kat’s Away divisions featured some pretty intense battles. Sloths fought Tanks, Elephants fought Hobbits, and Dragons took on Owls…there were some fun contests to be seen. Some fights ended with one contestant running away while others stuck things out to the bitter end and became a meal.
In the end though, higher seeds dominated and there were sadly no upsets. That doesn’t mean the fights weren’t competitive, some could easily have gone either way, but it goes to show how knowledgeable the Madness organizers are about the contestants.
- The 3rd seeded Dimetrodon chases the 7th seeded Pseudaelurus from his dinner and the field of battle.
- In another bad contest for the feline ancestors, the 4 seed Andrewsarchus scares off the 5 seed Thylacoleo, but not before the kitty precursor smacks the snout of ole Andy.
- Switching to a stranger battle, the 5 seed Secretary Bird steps on the 13 seeded Mantis Shrimp and once again the bird has seafood for dinner.
- The Orinoco Crocodile (#1 seed) is looking for a real meal since the Goliath Tarantula (#9 seed) and the Praying Mantis from round one just aren’t enough. Perhaps the next round will bring something more substantial than these appetizers.
- The 3 seeded Komodo Dragon will be coughing up Eurasian Eagle Owl feathers for a week after swallowing the bird whole. I really thought this would be a more intense fight but the dragon was just too powerful.
- In a battle that was dominated by the environment, the 10th seed Common Octopus dies without even seeing the 2nd seed Green Anaconda because he can’t deal with the fresh water. I really thought this fight would be more exciting with the intelligence of the octopus against the lizard brain of the snake…too bad the setting didn’t allow a fight.
- The 2 seeded Amebelodon nearly stomps on the hobbit-like 7 seeded Homo Floresiensis but the hominid precursor manages to escape and run away.
- The 8 seeded Thalassocnus (giant marine sloth) is bowled over by the 1 seeded Doedicurus (hammer tailed armadillo).
