Planned Books for March 2018
Daily Ramble 167: Planned Books for March 2018
For the month of February, I actually found myself finishing up my reading early. Who’d have thought that in a month of only 28 days, I’d finish reading 8 books before the end of the month. But with some extra time on my hands, I decided to look into what I wanted to read for March.
Ongoing Series Reads
Darkness at Sethanon by Raymond Feist and Forward the Foundation by Issac Asimov
These two continue the series I’ve been reading for the past few months. Both the Foundation series and The Riftwar Saga are ones I’ve read in the past but so far I think they’ve both held up pretty well and I’ve enjoyed rereading them. Along with these two series, I’m gonna start following the Wheel of Time read on Tor.com. They’re up to chapter 13 in the 2nd week of their read so it shouldn’t be hard to catch up. I’ve read 5–6 of the Wheel of Time stories a few years ago but want to take this opportunity to reread those and follow them to completion.
Book Club Reads
Strangely, this month I really am not too interested in any of the SciFi of Fantasy reads from the Goodreads book clubs. They all seem to be focused on some sort of political correctness or gender politics and I am kinda tired of all the yelling that seems to be happening these days about all that stuff. I just want a book that I can read that takes me away from reality and all the hate in the world and let’s me just fantasize about a better place, not bemoan injustice and prejudice. Perhaps next month I’ll be ready to go back to those stories, but I’m gonna take this month off from that stuff. So with that in mind, I narrowed down my selection to John Dies at the End by David Wong for my Mysterious Galaxy Book Club.
Science and History Books
The Science selection this month seems pretty cool…The Radium Girls by Kate Moore dives into the world of early factory workers, women, who used radioactive paint to create glow in the dark items. A lot of them came down with cancer and strange illnesses that doctors at the time did not correlate to their profession. It sounds horrible but enlightening.
For my History selection I’m gonna work with the book club and continue reading Caesar: Life of a Colossus by Adrian Goldsworthy. Originally I thought this was gonna just be the February read but halfway through the month I saw they were looking at a longer study and I think that’s appropriate for a book on such an important person.
Movie Books
This month has a few movies coming out based on books and while I already read A Wrinkle in Time last month, I didn’t see that the movie based on Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer came out in February. I’m gonna read that one to catch up and then I’m gonna tackle Ready Player One by Ernst Cline. This one has been on my “To Read” list for a while but I never got around to it…I hope to get it done before the movie comes out even though I’m not sure I’ll make it to the theater.
Overall
On the whole, I’ve laid out 6+ books to read in March. The plus being the Caesar book I’m continuing. I’m also gonna throw in a personal development book like I’ve done the past few months in hopes that I can better myself a bit. This month, I’m gonna reread Getting Things Done by David Allen hoping that I can get back to the productivity levels I’ve had in the past after reading this book before.
