Forth Degree and Battle Barding Eve

Daily Ramble 155: Forth Degree and Battle Barding Eve

Today I take a ramble further along my first Six Degrees of 2018 and visit Dragonchasers which is put together by Pete Smith. It’s a pretty neat site and one that is, like many other sites, covering the coolness that is Monster Hunter World among other things. I also get a strong sense of nostalgia not only from that site but from the most recent episode of the Battle Bards podcast where they take a look at the music of Eve Online.

Dragonchasers

Dragonchasers is the blog of Pete Smith and when I look through a bunch of his posts I get the sense that he shares a lot of the same interests I have. His most recent posts deal with Monster Hunter World and I find his insights into the way people play the game pretty interesting. He describes my troubles with the game and time management perfectly in his post talking about his biggest problems with the game. I totally agree that while the game is a lot of fun, I don’t always have the commitment to spend the time. I also love the fact that Gamera is one of his favorite of the classic monster movie monsters. Sure, Godzilla was great and he was the king, but I always liked the big spinning turtle. And I get a decent sense of nostalgia for these movies as I play through Monster Hunter World. Sometimes it feels like I’m walking through Monster Island or spelunking in the depths of the Earth hunting for these ginormous beasts. Finally, his curiosity for Sea of Thieves echoes my thoughts on the title and many PvP centered games. Similar to what happened with me and Albion, I can see the allure of PvP games when they’re done well. A lot of them cover interesting genres or time periods and many of the latest games have incredible artwork and/or gameplay. The problems I usually run into center around what do I do once I reach the limits of casual play and realize I either need to prey on other casual players or more likely, I become fodder for the hardcore players.

I’ve read Pete’s musings in the past and I’m glad to have rediscovered his site during my trip through Six Degrees. His insights into the games I’m playing or interested in will certainly draw me back to check out what he has to say about things in the future.

This has been an installment of my Six Degrees 2018 series in which I take a look at the wonderful blogs that surround Beyond Tannhauser Gate. The blogosphere is large but there are so many friends to be found within Six Degrees.

Battle Bards visits Eve Online

Wow…I am really surprised at the sense of nostalgia that was evoked when I listened to the Battle Bards episode 115 today. They covered the music of Eve Online and just listening to the music has me longing for the days where I spent hours upon hours in that game. Mining or traveling from system to system or trying to get to a fleet for a fight, I loved so much of the soundtrack that Eve provided and it certainly is memorable. Now I’m thinking about firing up the game again. I’m sure there have been a bunch of patches since the last time I played and I have no idea what condition the alliance I was in is currently in, much less where they are in space. And that makes me tentative about getting back into the game. It would be so easy to get sucked back into the cool setting, the economy, the building, and the outfitting of ships, that I just don’t have the time for Eve right now. Maybe I can just dip my toe in and see how things are now? Who knows…I suppose I’ll fire up the patcher at least and see if it’ll be ready for me when I get up in the morning.

Thanks for the nostalgia, Battle Bards!
