Daily Ramble 108: Base of Operations

Now that I’m in The Savage Coast I need to do a bit of planning and a establish a base of operations. First off is that I need to figure out a location where I can call home while I’m here. In Kingsmouth, that was the Sheriff’s station – a place I could always go to spend the night and not worry about waking up surrounded by zombies.

Overlook Motel

In the Savage Coast, there are a couple of possibilities including the Overlook Motel which is the first large building I come across along Solomon Road.

I’m not sure that looks too inviting and I really don’t want to meet up with Jack from Steven King’s The Shining. I’m sure I’ll come back to see what the motel has to offer, but it just doesn’t look like a place I want to come back to every night.

Atlantic Island Park

I’m also sure I could find a place to spend the night in the amusement park.

But it certainly looks like it’s had better days. I’m sure the house of mirrors or the funhouse that many similar parks have would put a nice roof over my head, but I’m not sure I want that level of freak show to wake up to each day. On top of that, amusement parks often mean clowns and I really don’t want to go down that road every day. Best to move on.

Roadside Houses

There are a few roadside houses like this one I could try to stay at.

But you never know when the residents might show up. Sure, they might look inviting and the inhabitants might be on vacation somewhere or have just run screaming from the island when the fog rolled in, but you never know. I didn’t even get off my bike to check the locks – they’re another place I’m sure I’ll come back to when I feel a bit more secure on this new island.

Innsmouth Academy

Now this is a place I can stay at…at least until it proves otherwise.

Innsmouth Academy seems to dominate a large part of the South West part of the island and is a pretty impressive compound. With it’s main building and auxiliary wings I’m sure there’s a bunch to see but I’m also hoping there’s some safe zones inside or around it where I can spend the nights. As it is, I’m gonna spend my first night in the Savage Coast inside if I don’t find anything objectionable. Another good thing is I found an Anima Well right outside the main building so if things do get dicey, I can always return here easily.
