Only a Couple
Daily Ramble 76: Only a Couple
Today was a pretty hectic day so I only have a couple things to ramble about – my first win in like forever in SMITE on the PS4 and the next chapter of DC Universe Rebirth. I’m really enjoying the comic but it’s so in depth and monumental it’s crazy.
Console Win!
I got my first win on the PS4 in months…ok so I’ve only played about 3 games on the console in the past 2 months, but a win is a win. And I’m pretty happy about it. I think I am starting to get a feel back for using the controller to attack and move. It’s a bit arcane for item selection and I’ve often selected the wrong ability to level up, but things are coming around.
Rather than going with Kukulkan like I was planning, I decided to stick with Sol until I got used to her on the console, and the next game I won! Woohoo!. I think my main issue with the console is item selection so instead of trying to work through the interface everytime I went back to base, I decided to go with auto-purchase. This got me pretty much the items I wanted, though the auto setting doesn’t adjust to the situation, and I didn’t have to worry about scrolling through the menu. I think in the future I’m gonna have to build an item list for each god I play so I can get to things easily. I should do this for the PC version as well so I’m quicker in base.
In anycase, I got my win and I was happy.
First Look: DC’s Rebirth – Chapter 3: Love
I suppose the title is actually DC Universe Rebirth so I’ll start using that going forward.
This chapter jumps back with Wally at the forefront, and he hears…a baby. No, not a baby – it’s the newly reborn Darkseid and his daughter Grail. Another confusing scene if you haven’t read the issues leading up to Rebirth. We then get a few pages that jump around a bit with everyone distraught in the aftermath of Superman’s recent battle, Green Arrow and Black Canary missing the connection they used to have, and Clark and Lois from the parallel world discussing their son Jonathan. The most important scene, I think though, is the one where Mr. Oz , who I’ve never heard of, talks with ‘parallel’ Clark and for me, it seems pretty monumental.
Wally says he’s got many questions and boy do I have them as well. The ups and downs of this chapter are pretty dramatic as we go from Aquaman proposing to Mera to Wally’s love Linda who can’t remember him. And since the name of the chapter is Love, it’s clear that there’s a lot of love that was lost and some that was found but that things are still different than they were before the missing time.
I’m starting to suspect that with all the cameos in this issue and the scope of the story that it’s not intended to provide much characterization but rather give the reader hope that these heroes will be fleshed out, remolded, and reborn in the transition to Rebirth. At least I have that hope.
