Running Battle with Spacetime
Daily Ramble 74: Running Battle with Spacetime
Longest Fight
The first mission I took from Ann Radcliffe, Harrison Blake, and their Orochi overlords was the Evolution of Species.
This task centered on the fact that the draug that I’ve been fighting all over Kingsmouth are starting to learn new things. They’re taking high tech equipment and suing it for their own ends so now not only do they have supernatural abilities but they’re also using our own weapons against us – this can’t be good. They’ve been adding the tech to these mounds and it’s enhancing their power.
On my way to take care of these mounds and the high tech gear the draug are adding to them, I actually ended up in the largest fight I’ve been a part of so far.
It actually went on for over 2 and a half minutes and I feel pretty lucky to have survived. The Impalers and Maulers were bad enough but whenever I used my AOE damage spell, it hit the pods which started the timers on their opening. The fight just kept going and going and at one point I counted 6 Impalers, 8 Maulers, and a bunch of other draug chasing after me. And everytime I used my Pentagram AOE spell (can’t remember the name off the top of my head), I dragged more bad guys into the fight.
Eventually though, I beat them all down and was faced with this big guy to take out…
This fight didn’t take as long but it got me through to the end of the mission.
Running Like There’s No Tomorrow
I got my first experience playing as Vamana today and it was a mess. I was trying out the Ultra Hyper Joust Turbo 2.0 game mode and was assigned Vamana and I had no clue how to play him. Like anyone who’s never seen his abilities before, from the user side, all I’ve seen is him either running all over the place or growing into a giant.
So that’s what I did…I used his Clear the Path ability all the time which was probably why I died a lot. I kept running like there was no tomorrow and ending up so far out of position that it was easy for the other team to pick me off. I was really bad. But I had fun running around. For now though, I’ll put Vamana back on the shelf for random selection and keep to my typical mages.
The Currents of Space
I went back to Isaac Asimov again and started up The Currents of Space which was the last released of the Empire books (1952), but I’m reading it right after I finished the Robot series. Apparently Asimov suggested to read this as the 6th novel and 1st of the Empire books so that’s what I’m doing. And like all Asimov, I’m enjoying it so far. The basic idea is that a Spatio-Analyst starts out the book knowing something terrible is going to happen to the planet Florina and everyone is going to die. Unfortunately, his mind is erased before we can find anything further and before he can tell anyone. Flash forward a year later and we find a man Rik (which means moron) who is suffering from amnesia and can’t even remember his own name. Fortuantely for us, he’s starting to remember stuff and if it occurs quickly enough, he might remember that a catastrophe is imminent.
I’m only a little way in, but the story is pretty compelling and has a distinct thriller vibe, but so far I’m not really sure how this fits into the Robots, Empire, and Foundation chronology. It’s fun none-the-less.
