Explosions, Brood, and 4K

Daily Ramble 64: Explosions, Brood, and 4K

What’s not to like about a mission where you’re tasked with gathering items to make explosives and then setting them off to kill zombies? No a whole lot, and that’s why I had a blast in my SWL game session today. Lots of things went BOOM and then I headed over to Destiny 2 and gave that a shot on my PC. So far, so good – the 4k images look great and I really love being able to zoom in to small parts of the screen to see enormous detail. I haven’t played much yet but the mouse and keyboard combo might take a bit to get used to after the PS4 controller. Finally, I finished up the Mutatus Mutandis storyline in Wolverine and the X-Men and I have to say I really enjoy Jason Aaron’s writing. He’s got 3 storylines that are finally coming back together but each has been full of action and character development. It’ll be fun to see where he goes next. But first, Secret World Legends…

As I mentioned previously, Secret World Legends gates some of their content based on character level where The Secret World pretty much let you walk into situations that were way above your capabilities at any time. Right now I’m sitting at one of those gates and I need to advance to level 14 in order to move on. The last gate was for level 12 and I think that made sense since the bosses I had to fight for that mission were kinda difficult. There are plenty of side missions to tackle while working on the XP needed for level 14 so I don’t have to worry about not having anything to do.

Another piece of info that has helped me out is something I saw on a game play video. Upgrading your talisman and weapons helps you keep up with the leveling curve. Just before the level 12 gate, I saw that it was taking a lot longer to kill the zombies that were chasing me and I was growing concerned about which skills I was using. Sure, I could have changed my rotation (which I may still do) but when I looked at the weapons I was using, I saw that my Assault Rifle was level 2 and my Blood weapon was sitting at level 4. After a few upgrade transmutations I ended up with a level 12 Blood and level 7 Rifle – much better for taking out the higher level zombies.

With those upgrades I was able to quickly get through the next couple of missions from Sandy “Moose” Jansen – Death, and the Instruments Thereof and Appetite for Destruction.

The basic idea of Death, and the Instruments Thereof is to gather a list of ingredients for making explosives. Moose thrives on tinkering with things that go boom and he needs a bunch of stuff…from all over town. With my newly updated equipment, the gathering isn’t much of a problem. There may be a bunch of groups of zombies but my damage now takes them out quickly. I also picked up a motorcycle to ride around on. With the shopping list taken care of, Moose sends me out with his latest batch of explosive gear. Mines, Napalm, and propane-filled bottles also make quick work of the zombies and the final test is down in the sewers. None of the zombies are really tough down there this time but there are tons of them so I’m glad I had the gear. I easily took them all down and with their numbers, I was able to gain enough XP to reach level 13. I’m sure tomorrow I’ll be able to continue on with the main mission at level 14.

Wolverine and the X-Men #7: Xanto isn’t a Brood

Hmm, I thought Xanto Starblood was a type of Brood but apparently I was wrong…he doesn’t come out and say what his species is but in this panel, he makes it clear he’s not a Brood.

Regardless of his species he’s definitely determined to kill Broo because the cute little Brood is peaceful which is the exact opposite of every other Brood in the universe. Well, he may be peaceful but he’s not a conscientious objector as Xanto soon learns as Broo is more than willing to claw, bite, and punch his way to saving Kitty Pryde from the attacking beast.

Meanwhile, Wolverine and Quentin Quire escape from the gambling dens of planet Sin, Beast and the miniature X-Men destroy the Brood egg sac, and Kitty finds a use for the mischievous BAMFS – though Xanto claims they’re not BAMFS. Another good issue and as usual, Jason Aaron sets things up for the future with a makeout scene between Kitty and Iceman, a dejected Broo feeling horrible about what he had to do, and a Wolverine that needs some serious physical therapy.

Wolverine and the X-Men #7 is another quality issue in my Modern Marvel reading.

A PC Start to Destiny 2

After finishing the story of Destiny 2 on my PS4 as a Warlock, I figured it’d be nice to try out a different class this time around on the PC. My main in the original Destiny game was a hunter so I figured that’d be my main for the PC this go around. Sure, there aren’t many differences among the classes other than their ultimate abilities but I think the Hunter does get a bit more mobility than the other classes – we’ll see. I also liked his Golden Gun in the first game so I hope that’s back – or at least I saw Cayde wielding one in a cutscene. In any case, the game looks pretty nice at 4k.

Here’s the carrier that brings the big bad to Earth – I’ve zoomed in and clipped the image but things are still pretty detailed and clear.

And here’s a shot of Cayde during one of the cutscenes. He was nowhere near the main focus of the shot but at 4k I could really zoom in and get a nice screenshot of him.
