Morning Ramble 383: Dream Architect and Valerian
Just a quick ramble today as I start the tutorial in Secret World Legends and take a look at a movie trailer for a show I forgot was coming out this July – it should be a good one.
Secret World Legends: Meeting the Dream Architect
The new tutorial presents you with the standard WASD movement scheme and introduces you right away to the method of accepting quests. Secret World Legends doesn’t put exclamation points above NPC’s heads or bright shiny rings, but instead provides an actual representation of the type of quest you’ll get if you select the icon next to the NPC.
Based on the icon, you can get a variety of quests from those in the main story line, combat focused tasks, your typical collection quests, my favorite – investigation missions, sabotage quests, and dungeons. I think there may be a few more, but the are the one’s I’ve encountered so far. For the most part, you can repeat quests if you want to, which was worth it sometimes in TSW because of the way the ability system worked, but it’ll be interesting to see how repeated missions effect the leveling process in Secret World Legends.
In any case, the Dream Architect offers you an action/combat mission (The Dead Rise) where you need to learn more about the dream.
Now one thing to note when accepting a quest, there is often a cutscene that is presented that explains the situation and what needs to be accomplished. These are pretty cool and really add to the immersion in the weird world of SWL, but be prepared that you may have a couple minute long scene that you kinda need to attend to once you accept a quest – it’s not like a lot of games where you just click on the quest, ignore the text and run off to do the task. Many times, critical information is provided in the cut scene that is relevant for completion of the mission.
So one of my key takeaways from playing The Secret World all those years ago was to pay close attention to everything…including the tutorial which I’ll do next time.
Valerian
I knew this movie was coming out, but didn’t know it was during the month of July.
So many movies this year already and I still haven’t seen Wonder Woman or Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and now Spider-Man is coming out…so much goodness.
