SMITE with Osiris

Yesterday, I actually scored a win in all modes of SMITE that offer a “1st win of the Day” bonus – Conquest, Arena, Joust, Clash, and Assault. It was fun trying them all out but I’d have to say with my limited experience, playing Assault was painful.

I had to play 6 different times before I pulled off my “1st win of the Day” in Assault but I suppose it was a learning experience. I played 6 different gods – only one of which I had played before – Ah Puch – and I didn’t really know him that well from the 1 game I tried him in anyway. Needless to say, this is a tough mode for a noob who’s unfamiliar with the abilities of the random god he’s assigned. I usually ended up spending the first few minutes reading and trying out the skills to see area effects, range, and such. There seem to be more and different shaped ability zones than in League and I’m not familiar with many of them.

The main thing that sets this mode apart from the League version is the lane. The lane here is very crooked – kinda like that street in San Francisco…Lombard Street – and it makes a big difference in how the game is played. There don’t appear to be bushes to hide in either, but since there are corners on thump, it’s easy to hide on the other side of those – corners also block some abilities so they can be used strategically.

So, the first 4 game modes were pretty straight forward and I won those all on my first attempt which I’m pretty happy with. Assault was a pain. Here are the gods I had to quickly learn – and I don’t think I could tell you what any of their abilities are for the most part now.

  1. Anubis
  2. Camazotz
  3. Ah Puch
  4. Agni
  5. Sol
  6. Osiris

I’m not sure how I was able to win with Osiris and not the others, particularly Ah Puch and Sol who I thought I played pretty well, but it wasn’t to be. Here’s the kit of Osiris and honestly, I don’t recall which abilities I used effectively.

I’m pretty sure my team carried me, but I did a bit since I got a 22 assists to go with my multitude of deaths.

In all, I’m really impressed by the diversity of gods and talents in this game and I’m glad I took the opportunity to play it. It’s much less toxic than League and I’ve yet to have trouble connecting to the game. And with the variety of play styles and abilities, I don’t see any problem with paying the $30 to get all the gods.
