March Madness Review

The Madness is Over

What a month it’s been. I’ve accompilished a bunch and fell behind on things as well. In either case, I think today is a good day to look back at the month.

2017 March Mammal Madness

March Mammal Madness was great this year. This was the first year I was able to fill out my bracket before the tournament began. I didn’t do too well though. Even though I made a ton of selections for who would win each battle, I’d say I probably got maybe 50% right. I just didn’t pick very well, and even my favorite, the Honey Badger, ended up losing in the Championship match. Regardless of how well my picks went, I had a lot of fun following the fights.

Fantasy Baseball

March is always the start of the baseball season and this year I got heavily involved in Fantasy Baseball. I actually have 4 leagues that I’m playing in…a Scoresheet league, a Scoresheet Root league, a Mendoza Baseball league, and a hybrid Roto/Head-to-Head league. Hopefully I’ll perform better in these leagues than I did in March Mammal Madness.

Destiny

I made a little progress in Destiny this month but not nearly as much as I wanted to. I wanted to move on to the next planet – Venus – but I only managed to get a bit more done on the Moon. I’m still enjoying the game I’m sure I’ll get further now that the craziness or March is over.

Nioh

I’m loving this game but dying so much. I’m up to 8 deaths but I still haven’t made it outta the Tower of London. I’m pretty sure I’m close though, so this is another game where I didn’t achieve my March Goal, but I’m still enjoying it and haveing a lot of fun.

Books

March was a busy month for my reading and I was able to get through 4+ books in the month. I say 4+ beacause technically, I finished reading Sabriel by Garth Nix on March 1st so it kinda gets included in the month. I also am half way through Lindbergh by A. Scott Berg but won’t finish it till a few days into April. The 4 books I did finish, though, were: The Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen, Gateway by Frederik Pohl, The Naked Sun by Issac Asimov, and The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms but N. K. Jemisin. My favorite was Gateway which I rate an easy A and is one of the best books I’ve read this year. The rest get B+s except for The Queen of the Tearling which was more of a B for me – it was good, but I felt there were too many cliches and not enough answers to questions that were raised.

Comics & Comic-Con

The big news and event this month was Comic-Con tickets. They went on sale and I was able to grab all 4 days. I still would like to get Preview Night tickets, but will have to wait till April 8th and Open Registration. Beyond tickets, I was able to read though my planned Saga and The Authority issues, but didn’t even start on Wonder Woman Year One – there was just too much going on. I did manage to get in a few issues from Marvel’s 1962 Silver Age, and am almost through the year.

One the whole, while I didn’t accomplish everything I wanted during the month, I think I got a lot done and feel good about how much I was able to do. Maybe April will be the month I start in on Horizon.
