#2017MMM The Final Battle
I held off writing a post today because I wanted to experience the Championship battle of the 2017 March Mammal Madness, but I’m saddened by what I consider an upset. First the Dire Wolf and now the Honey Badger. I suppose their fodder for an future Coudla Shoulda bracket, but I think they were robbed.
Tonight’s battle took place in the Chaparral in Cape of Good Hope which is neither good nor bad for either combatant as far as I can tell. The favorite, Honey Badger, doesn’t care anyway and the Short-faced Bear is just happy to be alive to fight in the year 2017… since he went extinct 11,000 years ago.
The Short-faced Bear arrive in the arena first and chases off the some wayward spectators and waits for the Honey Badger to show up. She doesn’t disappoint and lopes onto the field of battle but when she sees the Bear, she charges. The Bear roars and the Badger runs up a tree to get a better vantage pint but the Bear’s jaws meet it as she scrambles up the tree. It doesn’t look good for the Badger, but she wriggles out of the bite of death with her loose skin. She’s still fierce and slashes the Bear’s face, but it doesn’t deter the Bear from continuing his assault.
Realizing the determined Bear isn’t gonna back off, the Honey Badger makes a winning decision and leaves the field of battle to fight another day. Perhaps that’s why the Honey Badger is extant and the Short-faced Bear is extinct…she’s intelligent while the Bear is simply single minded.
In any case, the Short-faced Bear defeated the Honey Badger and she don’t care.
I care though because my bracket had only one hope of being successful, but it actually fell apart really early in the tournament. I enjoyed the whole thing though and am sad that it’ll be another year till the battle starts anew.
