Morning Ramble for March 10th, 2017: #2017MMM, Thrones, and Updates
Morning Ramble for March 10th, 2017 in which I cry foul at the fact they let a Reptile fight in the 2017 March Mammal Madness Tournament; I drool over the new Game of Thrones trailer; and I jump for joy at the PlayStation 4 software update…I’m gonna get me a lot of space for my stuff.
2017 March Mammal Madness: Desert Adapted Mammals
The matches today featured the Desert-Adapted Mammals and they were just as exciting as yesterday’s Adjective critters. All of the favorites in the bottom part of the bracket took their battles – the Saiga, South American Gray Fox, and Guanaco all had a fairly straightforward pathway to advance, and they took it. You can see all the action at Storify
The Aardwolf and my tournament favorite, the Honey Badger, both took their matches as well. An interesting note is that the Honey Badger hasn’t made it to the tournament since 2013, and she was upset by the Elephant Seal that year in what I think was a total robbery. Anyway, the Honey Badger’s victory was one of the most dominating and quick I’ve seen in my time watching the tournament.
As for the major upset of the region, I was really surprised that the Ringtail, who is a relative of the Raccoon, was able to overvcome the wiley and moustachioed Pantas Monkey.
If it weren’t for the location of the battle, the Pantas Monkey would not have had to fear for his mate, but since there were other males around, the Ringtail used that to his advantage and “encouraged” our contestant to chase an interloping male rather than fight the scheduled battle. Kinda a “cheesy” win, but a win none-the-less, and a major upset of a 5 seed by a 12.
Finally, in the key battle of the night, the Meerkat and the Gila Monster faced off on the battlefield. I don’t know who let the baby Meerkat into the arena, but it prooved to be a pivotal event – I have my suspicions that there were more reptiles hiding in the Sonoran Desert that tricked the referee into this oversight, but nothing’s been proven yet. In what was due to be a monumental Mammal vs Reptile fight, the little Meerkat pup ended up in the jaws of the Gila Monster and Mom Meerkat threw in the towel.
If only the strict age guidelines had been followed I’m sure the Meerkat would have prevailed.
So there we have it…the Saiga, Guanaco, Ringtail, Gray Fox, Aardwolf, Sand Fox, Gila Monster, & Honey Badger advance to the round of 32.
Next up, the Coulda Shoulda Mammals face off on Monday, March 13th at 8:30 Eastern/ 5:30 Pacific. You can follow the battles on Twitter with the hashtag #2017MMM or @2017MMMLetsgo and be sure to check out the official site at Mammals suck…Milk.

Game of Thrones
HBO released a trailer of the next season of Game of Thrones, and I’m sure everyone is looking forward to it. This could be the most exciting season to date and I am waiting with anticipation for July 16th to roll around. For now, here’s the trailer…
Time for the Great War, and after all the weather we got here in San Diego over the past few months, Winter is definitely here.
Playstation 4 4.5 Update
I am so happy to have the 4.5 update and am hunting around for a new USB 3.0 hard drive to use to expand my storage. It’s been such a nightmare dealing with the small internal drive and the large game installations that I feel I’ve only been able to have 2–3 games loaded at any time. With this update, I can get a drive, similar to the 4TB one I have for photo storage on my PC, but I can actually launch the PS4 games that are installed there. I suppose this is good and bad…now I have less of an excuse for holding back on getting games since I’ll have plenty of space. Now I only have the slow download speeds to complain about – hopefully they’ll fix that soon as well.
