2017 March Mammal Madness
It’s Back! The wonderful annual event of March Mammal Madness. And this year looks to be a pretty good tournament.
This year they group the contestants into 4 different brackets:
1. Desert-Adapted Mammals
2. “Two Animals” One Mammal
3. Coulda Shoulda Mammals
4. Adjective Mammals
Ok, so the Desert Mammals are pretty self explanatory but the others could use some details. The “Two Animals” group is filled with animals that combine the names of 2 different creatures into one mammal. The Coulda Shoulda bracket is made up of animals that should have won during previous tournaments but somehow were upset. Finally, the Adjective Mammals are animals that need some descriptive modifier to truly express their mammalhood.
This year features some interesting contestants including a Gila Monster which, though not a mammal, made the tournament due to it’s winning of the #2016MMM Heckler of the Year Award according to the Mammalssuck site. Also making an appearance with a 5 seed is the Neanderthal Hunting Party, who may be headed for a Cinderella ending if they can get past the Leopard in the first round.
The action begins on March 6th at 7pm Eastern and can be followed on Twitter with the hashtag #2017MMM, @2017MMMLetsgo, or a bunch of other tags, or on Facebook and Storify.
Personally, I am pulling for the Dire Wolf, but they’ve got some stiff competition in the Couda Shoulda bracket. My other favorite is the Meerkat, but even if the get past the Gila Monster, they could face what I think is the overall favorite for the tournament…the Honey Badger.
I’ll be filling out my brackets this weekend and post my picks for the 2017 March Mammal Madness tournament on Monday.
