Tracking My Reading
Now that it’s the 8th Friday of the year, I thought it’d be a good idea to take a look back at my book tracking plan for the year. If you recall, in mid January I found a spreadsheet that I was gonna start using to track my reading for the year since in 2016 I kinda lost track.
While I started out with a single spreadsheet, I soon decided to split things up between comics and novels…I just read so many more comics than novels so it just made sense. So far, in 8 weeks, I’ve managed to read through 8 novels and 39 comics and I’m pretty pleased with my progress.
8 books in 8 weeks has me on a nice 52 book pace, well above my goal of 36 – I planned to try to read 3 books a month but I’m doing even better. I’m also happy with the distribution of genres though I’d like to add a nonfiction or two in soon.
To pick books, I’m in a few clubs on Goodreads and one at a local bookstore. I’ve also set a goal to read through the Asimov Robot and Foundation series.
For comics, I’ve got a local club attached to Comic-Con International and there are tons I haven’t read that I want to get to…so much in my backlog.
For comics, I think publisher is where my diversity is best since I try to read outside the big 2 as much as possible…
I think I’m pretty much on track with my comic reading goals too. I want to read 250 comics this year and that would equate to .68 comics a day and 37.4 for the 55 days so far. I just need to keep things up and I’ll make the goal pretty easily.
On the whole, I think tracking my progress has spurred me to do better than I had planned and be well on my way to my goals.
Hope you are all making progress on your goals this year.
