Nioh Taboo?
Playing Nioh the other day, I had to make good my escape from the Tower of London. That was 1598.
Flash forward in time and media and I’m watching events supposed to take place in the Tower of London in 1814 on Taboo.
Apparently not much has changed.
Nioh Challenge Entry #3: I Found A Sword
Last time I didn’t make it past my jailer. He sheathed his sword in my head so I found myself waking up back in my cell. Fortunately the wall I broke down last time was still open.
So I figured I’d try to be more careful this time. I was still armed only with my fists but I figured a kick might do some damage as well and maybe I could subdue my jailer long enough to steal his sword.
One kick only managed to piss him off and he turned around swinging his sword.
That didn’t work out so well…and I found myself waking up in my cell again.
This time, I figured it might be a good idea to try kicking him in the head.
And what is it with this L3 Lock On thing. I’ll have to give that a try…Wow! I can now focus on the guy I want to attack rather than punching and kicking the air. Finally, after flailing about and locking on, I was able to take down my jailer. And more importantly, he dropped a sword I can use.
And running down the hallway, I found a cool jacket, but there were more guards.
With sword in hand and some armor, I was ready to really start getting out of this tower. I wait for the guard to pass and strike at him from behind, after a few shots, he just explodes. The sword is much better than bare knuckles.
But all was not perfect. He had a buddy you can see down the corridor as I finished off the first guard.
This new guy was a much better swordsman and I hadn’t learned the nuances of dodging and blocking yet…he on the other hand knew exactly what to do.
After parrying and dodging a few of my wild swings, my stamina was low while this new guy was just getting started. Whack, slash, boom…I was headed back to my cell.
Oh well, I tried. I am ever so slowly figuring out what to do. One of the early reviews I read for Nioh mentioned a steep learning curve. This is nearly vertical for what I’m used to. Sure, I’ve played a bit of Bloodborne and dabbled in Dark Souls II, but that was a while ago and I don’t think any of those muscle memories have lasted, and compared to Destiny, this is mostly melee while that is more ranged combat. It’s gonna take me a while to get the hang of this.
