Cubs Vs Indians

Game 1 didn’t go so well for the Cubs. For starters, Corey Kluber struck out a record 8 Cubs in the first 3 innings. Then there was the first inning bases loaded hit batter by Jon Lester that made the game 2–0 in favor of the Indians. There was really no looking back for the Tribe as Kluber was dominant and scattered 4 hits over his 6 innings of work. If there was anything the Cubs could point to as a positive, it was the return of Kyle Schwarber who got his first hit of the year with a double in the fourth – turns out he’s the first non-pitcher to get his first hit of a season in the Wolrd Series. The other highlight for the Cubs would be Ben Zobrist’s 3 for 4 night. While it didn’t prevent the shutout, it showed that Kluber was hittable and might lead to better results later in the series. Hopefully the Cubbies can shake off the loss and put some runs on the board tonight or it’ll be a long flight back to Chicago.

SSG Vs H2K

Speaking of long flights, I’m sure H2K enjoyed their time in New York, but they certainly had to endure a beating to get that pleasure. They were swept pretty soundly by a dominant Samsung Galaxy team that was unstoppable once the mid game started. Sure, they may be slow to get rolling, but even being down after the first 20 minutes was not enough to stop them from roaring through the mid game and on to victory.

With the final non-Korean team out of the tournament, I look forward to seeing which of the Korea powerhouses take home the trophy this year. I kinda think it’ll be SKT but SSG sure looked good in the semifinals.

Jury Duty

Finally, I’ve been unable to get any game time in recently because I’ve been doing my civic duty…I’ve been a juror for the Superior Court of the County of San Diego. It actually wasn’t a big deal, just getting to the downtown courthouse and listening to the orientation. They kept telling us that if we couldn’t set aside the next 3–7 days we could get excused. Well, after orientation they started calling for a trial but said it could take 6 weeks. 6 weeks would make for a pretty interesting case, but I don’t have that kind of time to take off work and NOT get paid. Yes, sadly, my current employer only covers a single day for jury duty…part of working for a smaller company. My last employer (40k employees) paid for the entire trial (I was on a 3 week trial a few years ago). Oh well, things will get back to normal now.
