Rambling about Robots, Fire, and League on Blaugust Day 26
Unsportsmanlike Conduct
As I said, things seem pretty toxic in League these days, I’m just surprised to see Riot take action 2 days in a row.
Thanks to Izlain
I wanted to mention my thanks to Izlain of Me Vs. Myself and I for recommending that I watch the VODs of the Immortals vs Cloud 9 LCS matches. Those were 5 of the best League matches I’ve ever seen. So incredible! If you haven’t seen them and have any interest in League of Legends or ESports, I add my recommendation to Izlain’s – these are good viewing.
More Viewing
Work has been crazy lately so I’ve been focusing more on that not only during work hours, but also at home when I should be having downtime. Things are just easier to research when I’m not running into firewall blocks of developer blogs like I get at the office. So, what time I have been using to wind down, I’ve spent watching some of my favorite shows.
Mr Robot
Mr. Robot is of course awesome! It’s not often a show puts out an episode without it’s Emmy nominated stars and it’s just as good as the other episodes. After the revelations of last week I kinda expected more of a slow episode this week, but not with this show. If anything, things got more intense for the members of the cast NOT in jail. They’ve taken things a beyond hacking and they’re starting to recognize that the Dark Army might have agendas they are keeping secret from FSociety. Such a good show that is consistent every week.
Halt and Catch Fire
Halt and Catch Fire came back this week and it picked up with the Mutiny team in San Francisco. They put out a 2 episode first week and I’m pretty sure the only thing we see of Joe is his voice in the first episode. He plays a larger role in the second episode, even offering Gordon a 70% share of his company to join forces with him. Of course Gordon turns him down, so Joe steals the brightest developer on Mutiny away to piss Gordon off even more. It looks like this will be the theme of the season. Mutiny is trying to expand from a chat room BBS to something that will allow financial transactions, but they’re ignoring security implications pointed out by the smart guy. Joe on the other hand is growing his antivirus empire. So glad to have this show back for another season.
It’s pretty strange going from a hacker show set in 2015/16 to an infant computer industry show set in the 1980s. Security just wasn’t a concern back then…now, it’s paramount, but there are failures all over the place all the time. But then it’s probably the first time there have been multiple shows on the air that focus so heavily on the computer industry and tech. I love both of them.
