Olympic Coverage
I’m not sure when it happened, but it seems that Prime Time has been extended to midnight. Or at least that’s what NBC would have you believe. Why they’ve decided to postpone events that Americans clearly want to watch until 11pm or midnight is confusing. I suppose NBC just doesn’t give a crap about people watching their TV coverage. Or, more to the point, I guess NBC doesn’t care about their advertisers who are paying for time.
For me, I’ve just decided that anything I see advertised on NBC during the Olympics is something I’m going to boycott. NBC has decided to be insulting to me by showing the Gymnastics final when I’m in bed or the medal ceremony in the middle of the night, so I am going to ignore anything that would provide them with $$$. Sure, I can and did time delay the events I was interested in, but that doesn’t change the fact that I felt disrespected.
In any event, I’ve enjoyed what I’ve seen.
The swimming was fun, the gymnastics were enjoyable (though NBC didn’t show any of the men at a decent hour), and the track & field is turning out good too. The wind blowing divers around as they were trying to compete was interesting and the outdoor cycling was crazy to see the last 500 meters determine a race of so many miles.
It’s the same every 4 years. I get interested in all these sports that disappear again until the next Olympics. I’m just grateful to have a break from all the political crap that was on TV before.
