Updates Everywhere…And They Work So Far
Update to Windows 10
I finally did it…1 day before the free offer expired, I finally hit the “upgrade” button that Micro$oft has been shoving in my face for the past year. The 90 minute update took from 6:30pm to 11:15pm…so much for the promise of improved speed, but at least everything showed up where it was going into the update. I haven’t had much opportunity to test anything out, but my USB drive that I share with the OSX side of my MBP could not be read – it’s probably some driver issue I need to figure out, but I’m pretty pleased that other things appear to be working well. Or I should say, at least after all that time, I was able to run League of Legends. I’ll try out a few of my other applications this weekend, but so far, so good.
One important thing of note, it certainly seemed that Micro$oft was trying to get me to approve them spying on me. “Try the Express Settings” seems to mean “Let Micro$oft have access to your location, your camera, your contacts, your email…trust us, we won’t abuse the information you give us.” A day earlier and that would have fit in perfectly with the lies being told at the DNC (I didn’t believe them either). Anyway, I haven’t seen any adverse effects of “choosing” to manage the settings myself. Hopefully things will continue to work as I use my computer for everyday tasks and gaming – my new computer will most likely come configured with Windows 10 already so I won’t have to hold my breath while I update that one.
League of Legends fix
Along with the Windows 10 update, it seems the recent update to the League of Legends client may have solved the problems I have been having with the game. At least that’s what I’ve seen so far. Since I updated, I’ve yet to encounter the problems so common after finishing champion select. Now whenever selection is over and the game transitions to the client, it actually starts up with no problems…I still say a prayer that it will work, but it goes right into the champion loading screen and I watch my counter move to 100%. The game starts and I actually can let my play determine if I gain or lose LP rather than letting Riot simply reduce my rank because their software doesn’t work. I’m definitely more happy with the game now, let’s hope it continues.
