Stay Healthy During Comic-Con

San Diego Comic-Con throws together over 100,000 people from all over the world so it’s important to take steps to try to stay healthy during Comic-Con. Being exposed to so many possible illness vectors can stress anyone’s immune system and preventative measures can go a long way to ensuring a positive con experience. Here are some ideas for staying healthy during Comic-Con and while they might not keep you from catching con flu, they might help.

10 Items for staying healthy during Comic-Con.

  1. Purell/hand sanitizer – Touch anything…clean your hands with sanitizer. This will go a long way to preventing health issues during the convention. A few years ago, they asked us to type in our names to collect our badges – not having hand sanitizer, I got sick day one and had a miserable weekend.
  2. Water – Always stay hydrated. Water may be heavy to carry around all day but you at least need a nice bottle so you can fill up in the panel rooms – most provide a water cooler to keep you topped off.
  3. Ocean/nasal spray – Clear out those nasal passages so things don’t sit there at the show or overnight.
  4. Eat Breakfast – A good idea is to make breakfast your largest meal so you have energy for the day and have at least one decent meal that’s better than the fast food and crap you’ll be eating while at the con.
  5. Walking shoes – You don’t want to get blisters as you go from place to place and you don’t want sore feet. There’s a lot of walking and standing during Comic-Con and you want to make sure to take care of your feet.
  6. Multivitamin – These are generally good to help fill in the gaps in necessary nutrients you don’t get from eating or drinking and you’ll most likely not be eating/drinking healthy during Comic-Con.
  7. Fruit/Veggies – These are good snacks and are much better for you that most of the fast food provided at the con. Apples, carrots, celery, oranges are all good to bring and won’t get smushed up in your bag and get all over your swag. Nuts also work well.
  8. Airborne – Adds a bit of vitamins and Zinc to try to prevent anything from getting a hold of you – hey, it might be a placebo, but it might work too…I use it just in case it helps.
  9. Sleep – Even though you want to see and participate in everything your body and brain needs sleep. While 8 hours a night might be asking for a lot, trying to run around the con with no sleep will definitely result in you getting sick.
  10. Sunscreen – Some of the lines extend outside onto the sunny San Diego Bay boardwalk and there are events all over downtown so you should try to make sure you don’t get burnt.

Give these ideas a try – I do – and hopefully you will avoid con flu and stay healthy during Comic-Con.
