Battleborn Beta

I got into the Battleborn Open Beta this weekend and downloaded it for my PS4. 

I guess it started last weekend, but I totally spaced on it. 

From what I’ve seen, the game seems pretty nice…good graphics and good basic play concepts.  It at least at first seems like a first person MOBA but I’m not 100% sure.

The main reason I’m not so sure is there is a story mode which kinda confuses me for a MOBA, but I haven’t tried it out yet. According to the open beta announcement, there are 2 episodes available in story mode for starters, and you play solo or co-op with up to 5 players. Kinda a different thing for a MOBA. 

Having done zero research, I picked the champ that said he could heal…Miko. It will take some getting used to as I got wiped out in my first match, but so far the game is fun. One thing I kinda like is the time limit – 30 minutes and the game was called.  Whoever was winning, got the victory. I can see this as a positive and a negative thing. Champions will have to be balanced throughout the game since ‘late’ game is only 20 or so minutes into the match. 

The other aspect of the 30 minute time frame is that I didn’t get very far with my leveling up. During the game, you can get to level 10 which would give you all your spells and allow you to select mutations or ‘Helix’ upgrades to abilities (similar to Heroes of the Storm).  I only made it to level 6 but I’ll be trying again soon.

I think I did ok for my first game, but obviously I need to improve if I want to play this on a regular basis.
