Six Degrees of April 1, 2016

This week, I started my Six Degrees travels with the second blog on my blogroll…Bio Break.

Here are the 6 places I visited:

  1. Bio Break
  2. 7 Days a Week
  3. Another Stupid Gaming Blog
  4. Dragonchasers
  5. Levelcapped
  6. Allahweh's Domain

There was much more diversity among this group of blogs than last week, with topics covering World of Warcraft, Black Desert Online, Zelda, Elder Scrolls Online, and Pax East.

Six Degrees of Blogging

This week we travel to places covering more than just World of Warcraft. And the diversity in games is encouraging…a little of the new (Black Desert Online)…a little old (WoW and TESO)…a real world topic (Pax East)…and some retro gaming (Zelda). So much in just six degrees of blogging.

Bio Break

Syp over at Bio Break talked about dusting off an old friend in WoW. And how resurrecting an old character can take some doing, but is worth the effort. Apparently, Ghostfire the Hunter has been in stasis since Lich King in 2008, but that didn't stop Syp from getting reacquainted with her. They even did some questing of the bodily function kind as described in the post's title – Wolrd of Warcraft: Heroic Pooping.

7 Days a Week

Over at 7 Days a Week, Xannziee posts about the early levels of Black Desert Online and worries about how the cash shop will impact the beautifully imagined sandbox environment. I agree with them that the prebuilt housing is a plus, but we'll have to see how crafting really impacts the economy…will it be like Eve Online where everything is player created and everyone has a chance to build all their own items, or will it only be a situation where it takes too much time and luck to craft truly useful equipment.

Another Stupid Gaming Blog

Another Stupid Gaming Blog also posts about Black Desert Online, but the focus here is on Energy and Contribution points. This is where I think BDO can really differentiate itself from other MMOs and hopefully we will see these mechanics utilized in a way to make a fun economy. I mean, I don't mind the WoW economy, but for the most part it is artifical, but if BDO can proove to be more along the lines of Eve Online, I think that would really give this game some long term appeal. Hopefully the Energy and Contribution point mechanics will contribute to a robust economy that can regulate itself ingame with little influence from the devs.

Dragonchasers

On Dragonchasers, they shift over to Elder Scrolls Online, but on a new system. I really like the fact that TESO is on consoles and PC, but I hate the fact that they don't all play nice with each other. In anycase, leveling up on the XBox1 didn't look to difficult in the post and the fact that grouping is simple makes that even easier. It will be a glorious day when you can buy a game once and play it on any platform you want AND join up with friends on ANY platform they are playing on. I wish Dragonchasers fun questing, but I'm on the PS4 so I sadly won't see you ingame.

Levelcapped

In real world issues, Levelcapped posts about the dichotomies of missing Pax East this year. I can totally empathize with you on this one. I am an avid attendee at San Diego Comic-Con International for the past umpteen years…I think we're getting close to 20. Sure a lot of the stuff is the same year after year, but I can't see myself NOT going. Standing in lines, dealing with crowds, catching the con-flu, all par for the course. But then I'd miss it if I didn't get tickets…hell, I get upset when I only get tickets for 3 out of the 4 days. Well, this year I have passes for all 4 days plus preview night and I am excited – this'll be my first preview night in a few years. When I was younger I had a similar experience with Origins and GenCon gaming conventions. I went for many years in a row but then sadly they stopped coming to my area of the country and I had to stop attending. Comic-Con keeps threatening this and I don't know what I'd do if it moved to Vegas or LA. Oh well, I feel your pain Scopique.

Allahweh's Domain

Finally, over at Allahweh's Domain, the GamingGoddess plays Zelda: Tale of Lyria. From the Let's Play video, it looks like classic Zelda and lots of fun. I have to admit that I have played only minimal Zelda over the years. I've always enjoyed reading about them and watching videos, but I never really got into actually playing them. Maybe this will be the impetus as the story seems cool and Allahweh shows a good introduction of what you need to do to get started. Now I have something to turn to when I want to get some retro gaming in.

  1. Thank you! So far the cach shop in BDO is fine and I agree energy and contribution point management seem to be a great innovation. 🙂
