Reading Marvel
The Complete Marvel Reading Order that I'm following breaks some issues into parts, particularly issues that have multiple stories in them. Tales to Astonish #29 is one of those issues, and from what I can tell, this issue is part of the order because of the story about the space beasts – When The Space Beasts Attack. To be part of the order, as far as I know, there has to be a tie between something in the issue and Marvel's main universe. I guess these space beasts show up in a more recent issue than 50 years ago, and so it ties in to Marvel continuity. So it's next up on my comic reading.

I was quite pleasantly mistaken when I thought the story was slowing down. It turns out they just expanded the character list which made things seem to slow down. Instead, it just got more involved and intricate, but it kept things progressing and I became even more engrossed with the novel. I've heard that there are flavors of a fairy tale in the story, and I'd definitely agree, but there are also some tastes of the dark woods of Lord of the Rings.
Once I started back up, they introduced Kings and princes and court intrigue. Politics and warfare between nation states and all the while, the magical forest introduced in the early chapters menaces over everything. It's been a long time since I read it, but I get the sense of Barbara Hambly in this story. I was reminded of her Darwath and Windrose series repeatedly throughout this wonderful story. In any case, I loved the book. Novik can certainly spin a yarn. Now I've heard that Ellen DeGeneres and Warner Brothers has optioned the book for a movie. I can definitely seen that working out, and look forward to it's release, hopefully soon rather than later.
Next up is 14 by Peter Clines.
