MOBA Day
I got an email for a new MOBA that I think looks kinda interesting so I’m gonna give it a try. Paragon looks to be a MOBA where rather than looking down onto the playing field, you take more of a first person look. Not completely first person, but you are down on the playing field rather than standing above it. Looking at the trailer, it also appears to be set in 3 dimensions…yes it looks like you can jump. In any case, I’m downloading it right now. Oh, and you’re supposed to be able to play on PS4 or PC.
While I waited for the download, I played a few matches of League of Legends – ARAM. ARAM is pretty much a one lane version of the game where basically you are just team fighting the entire time. The matches usually are much shorter than standard games, about 20 minutes average and you don’t have much choice in champions – you are randomly assigned a champ. You can ‘re-roll’ a couple times but you only get two shots and it takes a few games to replenish the capability.
I drew a game as Tryndamere and one as Tahm Kench, both of which were my first time playing. It’s always fun trying out new champs and by the time I got to level 18, I had kinda figure out what I needed to be doing. For Tahm, it took me that long to figure out that in order to eat an enemy, I only needed to auto attack or hit them 3 times and then hit the W. I started out thinking I needed to hit them with my tongue lash 3 times high was much harder. I didn’t get many kills in that game, but I did manage to save an ally a few times.
Playing as Tryndamere was a bit different as I always thought he looked easy. At least in ARAM, he’s not so easy. Without the jungle, his spin doesn’t give him the advantage of spinning through walls to attack or escape. Also, his ultimate works, but there’s not too many places to escape to in the single lane. I can see how he’d be fun in a normal games, but I didn’t have too much fun in ARAM. I also need to learn how to use his self heal better.
Anyway, ARAM is always interesting and usually a good way to play new and unfamiliar champs.
