Final Placement Games for Season 6
After going 4-3 in my first 7 games of ranked placement, I hoped I would turn things around and perhaps not get designated to the basement to start season 6 of League of Legends.
I've been in the basement before and while Bronze V is not all that bad, it represents a long climb to get where I want to go. My goal this season is to at least get up to Silver and stay there. I've been there before, but I've never ended a season above Bronze. And by staying there, I want to have played a bunch of games while in Silver rank trying to get to the Gold rank, rather than just stopping ranked play on the account.
To attain this goal, I have been focusing on playing a smaller set of champions – actually only 2 right now, and so far, I've only played Lux – that game as Xin was completely unplanned as I mentioned. With the new Team Select mechanism, I can pretty much ensure that I get to play the roles I want so I can focus on the champs I want. I pick Support or Mid as my 2 roles, and Lux plays pretty well at either of those positions.
For my 8th placement game, I was able to survive the entire game again. I only grabbed 1 kill, but got 10 assists as Lux. I think I am getting decent at avoiding damage as Lux, and I keep trying to work on identifying the best times to head back to base. I think most of the deaths I have are because I stick around on the map too long and get caught with less than a full hit point bar.
Game 9, saw me play Lux again as support. I didn't survive the entire game without a death, but my 3.0 KDA and 50% kill participation made me feel like I was a valuable contributor to the match.
In my last placement game, I really had to push things. The opposing team had a Katarina midlaner that was pretty good – she piled up 20 kills and threatened to run away with the game but my ADC was a Draven who even though he was reckless and died 13 times, synergized with me well enough that we combined for 22 kills. For a change, I really felt that I was able to help carry a game from the support role. I dropped a 3.6 KDA with a 62% kill participation and brought the hammer down on Rengar 3 times in the last 6 minutes to seal the deal.
I finished placements at 7-3 and felt pretty good about having won every game but one where I had all 4 other players stick around. 2 of the 3 losses involved AFKs and other than playing with 5 people you know, it's hard to avoid these situations 100% of the time. The one game I lost where players stuck around was definitely one I need to learn from. I need to get better dealing with Quinn as Lux, or any support.
Sadly though, by going 7-3 in placement, I was assigned to Bronze V. It's gonna be a long climb, but I have faith I'll make it this season.
