One for All is All for Fun

I haven't been doing too much game playing lately, but I have gotten into the One-for-All variant of League of Legends. The games seem quicker and load faster since everyone has to play or gets to play the same champion. The interesting part is that I am not always familiar with the champs that we are all playing. This usually the ends up with a trip to Champion.gg to see what the typical runes and masteries are and what the standard build pattern is for the highest win rate. So far I've played Vayne for the first time and Maokai as well. I also had a round of Blitzcrank which was interesting.

One thing that I think this style of play teaches me is patience. I guess with champions I am familiar with, I tend to rush things. I go in for pokes or all out attacks early with champions I know, but with these new guys, I have to practice patience. I have no idea when their power spikes occur. I have no idea how even to get last hits in consistently, even though I am not really good at that even with champs I know. But it seems that each of the new champs I have played in the past few days has required me to slow down and take my time leveling and attacking. And I think it has been good for me overall. I think I need to slow down my play. Be a bit more defensive in style so I can focus on building good skills rather than just going all out.

I am really impressed by all these alternate matches in League. They all seem to have a different draw and each one makes me take a step back from my usual style of play and learn a bit more about the game and the champions I play (or don't play).

If you get a chance, I really recommend you give these game types a try and step away from the “always ranked match” mentality I find myself falling into way too much.
