Surrender in the Championships

Another quick post tonight since I have been too busy for much gaming or for anything the past few days. I was able to watch one of the first matches of the League of Legends World Championships and boy was I surprised. I've watched a few of the games in previous seasons, but this was the first time I've actually seen a team in the champion ups surender. Invictus Gaming surrendered to Fnatic after going 1-8 in a little over 30 minutes. Perfectly crazy. I suppose they knew they had lost since they were up against a world class team, but I usually hold off on surrendering unless my team is in chaos.

Oh well, they have a few more chances to get their first win in the chanpionship.

  1. I’ve watched most of the games from the past week of the groups stage. I think there were actually two teams who surrendered, but in both cases it was clear there was no coming back. I think sometimes a surrender is admirable, because it doesn’t waste the other team’s time, but that’s more in a solo queue experience, because then both teams can just get on to the next game (or on with their lives). In the pro scene though, I wouldn’t fathom doing it. I just think that with the way things play out sometimes, you still might get that miracle win at the end. I know I’ve done that in solo queue even when things looked horrific. I’d think as a pro you’d have the mentality to never surrender.
