Blaugust Day 6 – More WoW Speculation and LotRo Consolidation
I started this, my Blaugust Day 6 post, before hearing anything about the WoW expansion. Now I know the Burning Legion is coming back and there is a bunch of news on the expansion. In any case, I put this together beforehand and speculated on timing of the expansion which doesn't seem to be mentioned except vaguely as next year. I also ramble a bit about LotRo server consolidation.
World of Warcraft
Well today's the big day. The announcement should be sometime probably before I actually write and post this. Before actually hearing anything, I predict that we will see a release of the expansion prior to the movie by probably a month or two so that people will get into the game, start getting hyped, and then the movie will come out. Maybe as far as three months before the movie so if the movie comes out in June next year and I expect we will see a March release which gives them about six months or so of beta and testing and working out the kinks. I think Blizzcon will probably be when they start opening things up as a closed beta for select people and then maybe in the new year start full beta. But that's just speculation this morning before I actually hear anything. At the very least it's got people talking about Warcraft again in a much more positive light when a significant drop in subscribers would normally have negative social media discussions.
Lord of the Rings Online
I guess the other big news that's been going on lately or at least that I got an email about, is the Lord of the Rings server consolidation. I guess they're losing players/subscribers as well. This concerns me a bit more then the more than Warcraft subscriber reductions. There's not as many players wandering about in Lord of the Rings as there are in Azeroth. But what also concerns me is the fact that they've run out of movie tie-ins. I am pretty sure the licensing for Lord of the Rings goes on for another year or two so I expect they'll keep that game up and running but I really want to get to Mordor and be able to see the huge battles that are there. I actually haven't made it much past level 20 with any of my characters in that game but it is definitely a goal that I have. I really should put that on my gamer to-do list. I love the books, I love everything Tolkien, and I really should be all over that game but I never really got into it for whatever reason. I have to do so before the journey ends.
San Diego Comic Con 2016
Just got an email today asking me to submit my badge information from this past con so that I can preregister for the next one. I'm already excited to be going!
It's still not too late to join Blaugust – just go to the initiative page at Tales of the Aggronaut or take a look at the Blaugust Nook on Anook.
