Continuing Adventures of the Kestrel
Continuing my exploration of FTL from yesterday, I jumped into a new game.
Starting up offers a confusing screen with quite a few options.
I kept things to the standard game and left everything in the basic configuration. There are achievements to accomplish that unlock things, and it looks like there are plenty of weapons and (something new) augmentations to find in your travels. Apparently, the advanced edition content offers even more options.
The normal mode game is more difficult than the tutorial so far, but it's nothing that has caused too much stress yet. I am enjoying the game, but I have learned that when playing on my iPad, if I try to take a screenshot, the game seems to reset. Unfortunately this means that it is difficult to get pictures while I am in combat – each time I tried, it reset the game and I had to re-jump to the system and start the combat over from the beginning. This proved to be good on my first battle as I was dying pretty badly.
I neglected to pause the game as I was trying to air out some fires and then the bad guy destroyed my door control – pretty frustrating. As I took the screenshot above, the game crashed and when I came back, I was in the previous system as if the battle had not taken place – not that I am complaining. When I went back into the system, I kicked his butt.
So far, I am really enjoying this game on my iPad. After playing the tutorial, the Steam version seems to be the same thing which could make it seem a bit lacking in content for a PC game, but it consumes time easily on the go. One thing I did not realize as I had bought the app a while ago, is that it costs a premium $9.99 on the App Store and on Steam. $10 is quite steep for an iPad game and cheap for a PC game so I guess by combining the two, $20 for both works out ok? I don't know, but I am enjoying my time in the Kestrel.
This is post 15 in my Blaugust Challenge.
