Prioritizing Health over Gaming – Week 4 Day 2 [EXE]
The first day of April is upon us and I feel good about my workouts. The month of March was a good start, and I guess I began my New Year's resolution a bit late, but I am glad that I have kept with things. As I mentioned previously, the starting motivation for this new endeavor was a forum thread from someone in my guild. He obviously had more motivation than I had since he had been doing workouts for some time. And since he's been doing this for a while, he is much further along in his fitness level – I am still no where near where I want to be. But I am greatful that he started posting to the guild forums to try to get others motivated to get in shape.
Even with that motivation, I still have not set out any goals for myself other than to be more fit. I know I could stand to lose some weight – probably 20+ pounds or so, but I don't think I am ready to commit to anything like that. Right now, I am just happy to be getting out and exercising 4 or so days a week. It is not even much of a time commitment as I am only running 20 minutes and my other routines have taken 10-15 minutes or less. 35-40 minutes a day is not too much to ask to be healthier.
In any case, I guess the only real promise I made to myself is that I would prioritize my workouts for at least 4 days a week over any gaming I do. So even with something big like the Elder Scrolls Online early access, I made sure to get out and exercise yesterday and today.
I think telling myself to prioritize some basic physical fitness over sitting in a chair gaming is a good idea – it's not like I am denying myself anything, I still am getting plenty of gaming in. But in the long run, it is more important to be healthy than to reach Silver in LOL or get to level 15 before the ESO early access is done, or anything like that, so I am going to stay with it and push myself.
Week 4 Day 2:
- 2×32 Push-ups
- 2×25 seconds Plank
- 10 Plank Reaches
- 20 Jumping Jacks
- 20 High Knees
- 20 Punches
- Running 20:07 minutes = 1.65 miles
I felt really good after my run. I think the 20 minute mark is where I start hitting my runner's high – hope it continues like this. Once again 64 push-ups is a lot for me, but I'm going to try to hit my scheduled 68 tomorrow.
