Dawn of a New Era
After more than a year since they were cancelled by network television, All My Children and One Life to Live are back! Prospect Park has given both long running soaps another chance on Hulu and iTunes.
It is so comforting to have these shows back. Growing up, I watched Days of Our Lives and Another World whenever I stayed home sick or over the summer. But I started watching these shows in the 90s. Another World was cancelled in 1999, All My Children in 2011, and One Life To Life in 2012. Days of Our Lives though, is one of only 4 soaps left on network tv. It was hard to see these mainstays of television for so many decades discarded, but I suppose most viewers had already started abandoning network tv. With hundreds of channels to select from, network tv can't seem to get the ratings anymore to keep decent programming on the air. Hopefully in these new incarnations the soaps, which virtually made the television networks, will have another 40+ years on the Internet.
